Garden Route District Municipality Achieves 5th Consecutive Clean Audit

22 January 2026

The Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) has once again set the benchmark for good governance in South Africa, achieving its fifth consecutive clean audit from the Auditor-General of South Africa for the 2024/2025 financial year.

In a national landscape where many municipalities continue to face serious governance and financial management challenges, GRDM’s sustained clean audit record stands out as a powerful example of accountability, transparency, and effective leadership. This achievement further reinforces the Western Cape’s reputation for excellence in local government and positions GRDM as a stable, well-managed, and trusted public institution.

Municipal Manager Monde Stratu, under whose leadership all five clean audits were achieved, credited the organisation’s success to strong systems and people:

“This achievement reflects strong collective leadership, sound internal controls, and a culture of accountability across the organisation. This outcome did not happen by chance, and I commend our staff for their professionalism and dedication in maintaining high standards year after year.”

Executive Mayor Marais Kruger also welcomed the audit outcome, highlighting its importance for public trust:

“Achieving our fifth consecutive clean audit is a powerful signal of trust to our communities, stakeholders, and partners. It shows that Garden Route District Municipality manages public funds responsibly and that we take our governance responsibilities seriously. This achievement is the result of teamwork, discipline, and a shared commitment to doing what is right for the people we serve.”

At Garden Route Pulse, we recognise milestones like these as critical to building investor confidence, strengthening community trust, and supporting long-term regional growth. GRDM’s continued performance sets a standard other municipalities can aspire to—and benefits every resident, business, and stakeholder in the Garden Route.
